What Can I Do For You?
This is my homebase on the galactaweb and is both a business and personal site. In the past, I've tried to hide my business enterprises under a company identity and refer to "us" all over the place, even when it is just "me". I've decided to try a new approach and freely open up as to who I am. The ghost in the machine, the man behind the curtain.
I occasionally enjoy writing random thoughts and ranting about this-and-that, so feel free to read my blog if you are interested. I'm also an avid reader, so check out the books I've read recently.
My latest business venture is writing iOS (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad) apps. I currently have two apps, Errands & Alarmed, available on the App Store. Check them out and let me know what you think. Making a living from developing iOS software has been quite an adventure so far. Especially since the "general wisdom" is that old software engineers lose their edge and can't keep up with all the changes in software and tools. So far it seems to be working for me ... I guess an old dog can learn new tricks ;-)
Why "Yoctoville"?
I've had a few domain names over the years and was looking for something new and hopefully unique. One day, I was thinking small, very small, and I ended up searching wikipedia and came across yocto, which is defined thusly:
yocto- (symbol y) is a prefix in the International System of Units (SI) denoting a factor of 10−24 or 0.000000000000000000000001.
Adopted in 1991, it comes from the Greek οκτώ, meaning "eight", because it is equal to 1⁄10008.
As of 2009[update], yocto is the smallest confirmed SI prefix.
Cool. I like small. I also like virtual villages and towns, so "yocto" plus "ville" resulted in Yoctoville and now you are here. Enjoy my really tiny slice of the interweb beamed to you from my gravity-bound spaceship traveling around on a small planet in a very, very big universe.
